BlackBerry News: RIM expands AppWorld in Europe, doubles number of apps

I love the quote that it does not matter if you have 40,000 or 2,000 applications. Easy to say when you are the one with a few thousand. If RIM had 75,000 apps you know they would be saying they had the most. RIM seems to be good with quotes. Let's not forget the Storm is a NetBook.

If you strip away the junk in Apple's AppStore and the duplicates how many apps are left? For the core useful apps Blackberry has a good selection and let the user extend the functionality of their Blackberry.

Would I love to see a larger amount - sure but when I browse AppStore nothing jumps out that is not on Blackberry already that would be vital to me finding a Blackberry useful or not as it already is.

I don't care about thousands of applications. I guess Apple Store's top 100 represent 90% of all bought applications (real numbers needed, anyone ?). People talked about the high price, I don't care, open the store in Europe first, then you can tweak and enhance the "user experience".

Alexandre, you are so right! It's not about the amount of apps, it's about the quality. And at AppWorld it's actually quite a good quality of apps. Not too many fart apps and a lot of productive apps. There's no denial that RIM still has to add a LOT of features like lists with 'New Apps' and 'Updated Apps'.
Hope to see the launch soon!

Of the 50,000 available on Apple's App store probably only about 1,000 of them are of any use (and that's being generous). I spent rather a lot of money on iPhone apps and actually only used about 10 of them on a regular basis. Most of the others were a complete waste. I'm a late BlackBerry convert but I think with the Bold, RIM have the current best smartphone. I'm looking forward to seeing their second attempt at touchscreen when the Storm 2 arrives. The first Storm was an interesting failure that had some good ideas but ultimately became an exercise in masochism to use for an extended period. If they get it right, they will be able to compete with the iPhone and see off the Pre.
